Cost : £200
Starts : Monday 21st July / Tuesday 22nd July
Ages : 12 to 17
Term : 6 week course
Training : Mondays & Wednesdays 6 to 8pm or Tuesdays & Thursdays 6 to 8pm. Sundays : 2 to 4pm for both groups
Location : Basketball (first hour of each session) Indoor court, Jesmond NE2, with running training in the nearby Exhibition Park for the second hour of each session (this will of course be weather dependant on occasion).
Anyone can play basketball and its a sport that many people take up well into their teens and later. Like all sports you need to know the basics - dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, defence, and footwork. Starting with shooting and working through each discipline over the 6 weeks we will get you up to social gameplay level by the end of the course. We will train twice per week with courses on Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6pm. Then the whole group gets together at 2pm on Sundays for gameplay practice.
After each basketball session you can also join me for a further hours cardio / running training. The aim of this is to get everyone up to 5k level within the 6 weeks at a pace that everyone can manage and if you fancy it, you can also join me and the team for the AJ Bell Great North 5k on the 5th September (must be over 14, entry fee will apply and places are subject to availability).
All training and gameplay sessions will take place in Jesmond (NE23BA) and running training will take place in the near by exhibition park.
At my school you were either good at football or you were written off as someone who was rubbish at ALL sport. With nothing on offer there, I started going to the gym in my last year of primary school. This continued throughout secondary school where I also began boxing and basketball training. I did my work experience at Rock over Climbing (Indoor climbing centre) in Manchester.
I did my first BTEC at Bury college in Sports Coaching and followed this up with an extended BTEC in Sport and Outdoor Activities at the fabulous Hartpury College in Gloucester where I also picked up various certificates and qualifications in disciplines such as first aid, sailing, water sports & climbing.
I'm now in my last year at Northumbria Uni in Newcastle studying Sports Coaching BSc Hons. I've spent my summers teaching water sports at Rockley in Bournemouth, high ropes in Pennsylvania USA and travelling south east Asia. I was also very fortunate in having the chance to spend a few weeks this year working with the mighty Newcastle Falcons on strength and conditioning (massive thanks to Micky Ward for the opportunity!). I've played basketball for Hartpury College and I currently run for Northumbria Uni in both 1500m and cross country.
I'm a qualified personal trainer with public liability insurance and an enhanced DBS check. If you'd like to discuss personal training, please drop me a message on my contact form.
